NORTH EAST CRAFTS AND TEXTILES

North East traditional crafts include jute, cane and bamboo products.  Jute and cane handicrafts often referred to as “Golden Fibre”, are eco-friendly, bio degradable and have earned worldwide recognition. The artefacts and furniture made with Jute and cane is mostly liked by consumers to give a fresh look to the interiors. Today Indian craftpersons have honed their skills to transform the natural fibre into products of daily use ranging from mats, bags, lamp shades, flower vase, office stationery, hangings, accessories and a multitude of other utility and decorative products.

Textile weaving is one of the developed art forms among the tribes of the North Eastern region. The textiles are usually in bright and striking colours with variety of geometric patterns to make the textiles quite distinctive. Other patterns carry curvilinear designs, conventionalized motifs symbolizing various floral forms. Three dimensional effect is given through use of sharp contrasting colours and use of thick woolen yarn over the white cotton base, diamond patterns are generally outlined in green thread and deep red yarn.

At Cottage Emporium variety of North Eastern products ranging from Bamboo Handicrafts, Grass Handicrafts, Cane Handicrafts, Handloom Textiles &made ups etc is available in myriad shades and types.
